Politics, Whistleblowing & Leadership

A political career shaped by institutional accountability, anti-racism and an unwavering commitment to challenging abuses of power.

My commitment has never been to political parties, ideologies, factions or institutional allegiances. It is to accountability, justice and the courage to challenge power wherever it operates and oppresses.

Leadership is not defined by the positions held, but by the convictions upheld when the cost of speaking out is greatest.

The Journey

As a former Labour Party official, Investigations and Governance Officer and Chair of the Labour Party's BAME Staff Network (2019–2022), significant contributions included leading the development of the National Executive Committee's Codes of Conduct on Islamophobia and anti-Black racism, and lobbying for the Forde Inquiry, which culminated in the Forde Report's examination of racism and factionalism within the Labour Party.

July 2021 marked a defining turning point: the decision to blow the whistle. Following the uncovering of serious concerns surrounding corruption and the alleged surveillance of Labour members and their children in the London Borough of Newham, challenging the institution came at considerable personal and professional cost. Subsequent disciplinary action followed. During this period, involvement in Al Jazeera's The Labour Files brought further scrutiny and public attention.

In July 2022, a period of solo travel through Palestine began, offering distance from the political pressures and isolation that had become increasingly difficult to navigate. In September 2022, the release of The Labour Files, described as the biggest data leak in British political history, brought the whistleblowing revelations into the public domain and placed me at the centre of national political debate.

Returning to Palestine in September 2023, I remained following the events of 7 October, witnessing first-hand the unfolding devastation and humanitarian crisis.

In July 2024, following approaches from members of the Newham community, I stood as the Parliamentary Candidate for Stratford and Bow. The campaign prioritised political accountability, public awareness and scrutiny of the incoming Labour government, creating an opportunity for voters to engage with information surrounding the revelations of The Labour Files.

Since 2024, political engagement has extended beyond party structures and electoral politics through national news commentary, keynote speaking engagements, rallies and community initiatives.

As co-founder of Seeds of Welfare, a community-focused initiative organising charitable hikes and events to tackle loneliness and promote wellbeing, grassroots engagement and social responsibility remain central to my work.

In 2026, I became a recipient of the British Zariah Unsung Hero Award.
